Fireweed Seeds

Price: $3.50
Common fireweed grows throughout most of Alaska. Its name comes from its ability to revegetate quickly after a fire. The flowers are used to make jelly and honey and the large stands are a source for bees, both wild and domestic. The seed of fireweed requires stratification to get good germination, so freezing it before planting is the best method. Blooming time: July and August. Height: 2-5 feet, growing from deep horizontal roots.
